Mr. Thrifty Quick Tip: Saving Money with Bed Bath and Beyond Coupons

Mr. Thrifty must admit that just a couple of years ago he never thought he would be writing an article on Bed Bath and Beyond coupons.  Before you think that Mr. Thrifty has gotten “soft” understand that there is now a Mrs. Thrifty running around.  Things have changed ever since.  Picture Will Farrell in “Old School”.

Frank: "I told my wife I wouldn't drink tonight. Besides, I got a BIG day tomorrow. You guys have a great time."
College Student: "A big day? Doing what?"
Frank: "Well, um, actually a pretty nice little Saturday, we're going to go to Home Depot. Yeah, buy some wallpaper, maybe get some flooring, stuff like that. Maybe Bed Bath and Beyond, I don't know, I don't know if we'll have enough time."

That pretty much sums up Mr. Thrifty’s weekends now- another journey to Bed Bath and Beyond.  Who would have thought that Bed Bath and Beyond would have so much cool stuff for your house?  However, just because Mr. Thrifty is no longer single does not mean that he no longer wants to save money and get the most stuff for his cash.

The easiest way to save money is through the ubiquitous 20% off Bed Bath and Beyond coupons that you see everywhere.  Seems like every couple of weeks the Thrifty family gets more Bed Bath and Beyond coupons in the mail.  Here are some things to know about these Bed Bath and Beyond coupons:

   1) The expiration date on the Bed Bath and Beyond coupons don’t mean anything.  Mr. Thrifty has had a least a half a dozen employees tell me that they will honor any Bed Bath and Beyond coupons that are brought into the store (as long as it has not already been used).

   2) You can use up to five Bed Bath and Beyond coupons on one visit.  Even though the fine print on the Bed Bath and Beyond coupons says only one coupon per visit, Mr. Thrifty has used up to five at one time on multiple occasions.

   3) You can bring your Bed Bath and Beyond coupons in after you have made your purchase.  Forget your Bed Bath and Beyond coupons?  Don’t despair!  If you did not bring your Bed, Bath and Beyond coupons with you to the store, simply save your receipt.  The next time you stop by the store bring your Bed Bath and Beyond coupons and receipt and they will refund the difference (usually in the form of a gift card or a credit on your credit card).

4) Update: A new trick with Bed Bath and Beyond.  A couple of Mr. Thrifty readers pointed this out to Mr. Thrifty:  If you do not have a Bed, Bath and Beyond coupons, your are not out of luck.  Bed Bath and Beyond will honor non-expired Linens N' Things coupons as well!  Great tip! Thank you Virgina in St. Louis and Jenny in Austin.

5) Update: A Mr. Thrifty reader pointed out yet another way you can save with Bed Bath and Beyond coupons.  In addition to their everyday low prices, Bed Bath and Beyond will match a competitors price.  So, find an item you want and shop around for it.  Find your lowest price, bring it into Bed Bath and Beyond and get them to price match.  Then, at the register, pop out your Bed Bath and Beyond coupons for an extra 20% off!

If you want to make your savings even greater, look around Bed Bath and Beyond for some of their clearance items.  Mr. Thrifty was able to get a really nice comforter on clearance $40 (original price $120) and then use his 20% coupon to cut the price down to $32.  Not bad.

The other way to magnify your savings is to look for some of the Bed Bath and Beyond gift card offers with purchase.  For example, if you want to buy a new set of knives (Mr. Thrifty did not realize how important or expensive these were until he got married), Bed Bath and Beyond will oftentimes put a set on clearance along with a free $50 gift card with purchase.  So here is the math: let’s say the set of knives is regularly $300 and on clearance for $250 with a $50 gift card with purchase.  You apply your 20% off Bed Bath and Beyond coupon on top of everything and you can effectively cut your cost down to $150 (note that you cannot apply your Bed Bath and Beyond gift card to your current purchase).  Not bad.

Bed, Bath and Beyond blows! Their merchandise is over priced and of low quality. What is the purpose of saving 20% when their junk is already over prices by 80%?

YO! Jamba Juice Man (cool name by the way). I don't think the author is advocating the quality of merchandise at Bed, Bath & Beyond. Over-priced junk is a matter of opinion. I believe the article is intended for someone who doesn't consider it junk, and I believe the commentary is about how you can save money if you do shop there. Since you apparantly don't, I'm curious as to why you have so much time to spend reading articles about it.

There stuff is really overpriced- but hey, my sis is registered there for her wedding. So I want to know how to save money there!
Good deal on Stuff...

I disagree with some of the comments about Bed Bath and Beyond. Yes, I agree that some of the Bed Bath and Beyond stuff is overpriced. However, I have found some of their items are both high quality and priced right (espeically if you use a Bed Bath and Beyond coupon). I have been using a knife set I bought there 8 years ago and it is still going strong. Great stuff!

I recently got married and found Bed Bath and Beyond to be my favorite place at which I registered. Not only were the staff helpful but they were VERY GOOD at taking things back. This combined with coupons made it a great deal. I realize that some of the stuff that Bed Bath and Beyond sells is junk, but you can simply take it back and buy the good stuff.

When I first saw an article on a thrifty sight devoted to Bed, Bath, and Beyond, I thought for sure this was someone who only perceived themselves to be thrifty. However, after reading the article, I understand how life changes as we marry, have children, and age in general. At some point, we are no longer content with the '70's orange couch and the cinder block/2x4 entertainment center. So thank you for giving perspective on something I would not have initially considered a thrifty topic.

CORRECTION!
Written by Guest on 2005-10-05 20:56:11
Bed Bath & Beyond does not have sales. They have everyday low prices, will match a competitor's price, or they have clearance merchandise. It's people like you with incorrect information that make my job difficult, because they read your article. They insist that I am wrong, "I heard BB&B had sales! Are you sure you don't have sales?" Thank you for doing that!

Thank you for your comment. Mr. Thrifty stands corrected in that Bed Bath & Beyond does not have sales. I have edited the article on "Bed Bath and Beyond Coupons" to reflect this. Thank you for pointing this out.

FYI...If you put gift cards on your Wedding registery at Bed Bath and Beyond, you can take them back and return them for COLD HARD CASH!
Great at returns

I am a recently married as well. We not only saved a bunch of money using our bed bath and beyond coupon but we found them to be the best at taking stuff back that we did not want. Kudos to Bed Bath & Beyond!

BBB also honors expired Linens 'n Things coupons. I get my gift cards from my Discover cash back and use coupons that I never throw away and have outfitted 2 bedrooms, family room, and 2 baths over the past two years for very little cash! Love BBB!! :grin

Overpriced items
Written by Guest on 2006-04-02 19:23:26
Just curious as to how Bed Bath and Beyond's products can be considered consistently overpriced by some if they match any price lower than theirs on the same item they carry? It's been my experience that BB&B is a company that actually CARES about their customer.
service and prices

I recently bought a wedding gift for my neice. :) Since I needed to have it shipped I went into the store to order and buy the gift. (That way I could use coupons) Since you can't redeem them online. I was happy with what I paided, and they got what they wanted.
Written by Guest on 2006-05-07 19:32:52
I work at Bed, Bath and Beyond and I have to say that I agree with all of what you have said. Some of their merchandise is overpriced or low quality. However you get what you pay for..If you buy something that is $2 then that is what you are getting from it. I cant tell you how many times we get a comforter set back that was $40 and the customer says it was a p.o.s. Well hello!??!?!? If you pay $40 for a comforter set then what did you expect. We have the best coupon policy in the world. There are not many other stores that would honor coupons after the sale, or use multiple coupons in one sale. The only other thing I am going to add is if you are considering buying something that costs $2 and you are all worried that you do not have a coupon to use on it-it is ok!!! you are only going to save 40 cents but if it is that much of a problem for you, by all means bring back your coupon and we will adjust the price for you. :)

Correction.

You can not register for gift cards and turn them in for cash. As a former employee of BB&B I can tell you we will not give you cash back for gift cards. However anything purchased off a registry can be returned by the registering couple for cash. Also note that the policy the customer is always right is pretty much followed there so if you ask the right person you will get what you want at the price you want.

Thanks!

I was wondering if anyone knew what type of discount BB&B employees receive.
Also, can bed bath and beyond employees use the 20% off coupons in addition to their employee discount?

Just thinking about getting a part time job to outfit my home on the super cheap!
Update on Bed Bath and Beyond Coupons
Written by Mr. Thrifty on 2006-06-13 20:16:40
Bed Bath and Beyond Coupon Update:

Several readers have written to Mr. Thrifty and made the following suggestion:

“There was an item that I found at on-line Bed Bath and Beyond website which was not carried at the physical Bed Bath and Beyond store. I only had a 20% physical store coupon and not an online coupon. I called my local Bed Bath and Beyond and they told me they could order the item for me and that I was able to use the 20% off store coupon. I also asked about shipping costs and I was told that the store would wave them.”

This seems like a good thrifty tip on how to save even more at Bed Bath and Beyond. Can anyone out there confirm that this is the case? If so, Mr. Thrifty will add this to the main article.

Thanks!

Online Coupons for Bed Bath and Beyond
Written by mr. Thrifty on 2006-06-27 22:06:40
Thank you for your question. Mr. Thrifty has never seen any online coupons for Bed Bath and Beyond that you can print out. The only way Mr. Thrifty knows of is to sign up for Bed Bath and Beyond's mailing list or look in the local newspaper. I hope that helps.

regarding employee discounts
Written by Guest on 2006-07-25 08:07:27
Suprisingly employees recieve only 20% off and are unable to use coupons on top of that. There are other empolyee incentive programs each month were certain products are up to about 60% off but then the 20% discount doesn't apply. There is also one week or day each year where a one time purchase is allowed for 30% off. Overall a good company to work for but it is retail so no what your getting into before you join up.
waive shipping
Written by Guest on 2006-07-25 08:12:47
BB&B policy on shippping is not to waive shipping cost on any items. They have the ability to for extream circumstances but they are a business and if you ordered from any other store online they would charge you shipping fees so you shouldn't expect anything less from them in the store. They can apply the coupons to store orders so even if you have to pay a $5 shipping charge on a $50 order you still save $5 dollars so it's worth it.
over priced??????
Written by Guest on 2006-07-25 08:19:10
I would just like to let you all know that BB&B is not overpriced. They sell better products then walmart so you can't compare them to a store like that, but if you compare them to a Macy's or Boscov's you will find that thier prices are about 10-30% less. China and glassware in particular is much less expensive. When shopping of a registry this is particularly helpful. Even if they aren't register at BB&B you can save some money by shopping there. Price match a Macy's sale and use a coupon for 20% off a china place setting can save you big bucks. For me it took the price from $150 to $94 and saved me $56.

I registered at BBB and we loved it. We got all the things that we wanted from there. The have a huge selection on their website. The cool thing is if you don't have a credit card or computer you can go to the store and check the registery and buy it at the store and they will add it to the website so you don't get 10 of the samething. I love BBB and will NOT shop anywhere else for my home needs.
Written by Guest on 2006-10-25 10:04:22
Always skeptical of registering for store emails, the clerk in BB&B
convinced me that by doing
so I'd receive a one-time coupon for 20% off my entire purchase. Great, I thought, I can get some $ back on that expensive comforter I just bought.
I waited, weeks went by,
months went by, I emailed
several departments at BB&B, phoned their help line and some dude assured me it was coming.
That was 6 months ago, still no coupon. Decided I was scammed and returned
the comforter. I was right
to be skeptical. I will shop at Linens & Things from now on. Maybe they'll have that comforter and a coupon!

I had a similar thing happen to me while trying to get bed bath and beyond coupons. I tried to signup via my email address and I never got anything. I went back into the store and they signed me up on some physical mailing list in the store and the coupons started coming.

$5 off Coupon stackable?
Written by Guest on 2007-03-16 10:35:53
Since you can use multiple 20% off coupons (on different items obviously) can you also tack on the $5 of $15 coupon on top of that? I'm looking to get a piece of cheap $100 furniture with a 20% off coupon and would also like to use the $5 coupon if possible.

Thanks.

Just wanted to say that even though their prices can be high, as mentioned above, they will price match. I am a very pleased shopper as I recently had an ice cream maker attachment to my mixing bowl go bad. (It started to leak the blue fluid). I called the manufacturer(Kitchen Aid), but they said without the receipt they can not prove I only had it for 3 months (it had a 1 year warrenty). I took it back to Bed Bath and Beyond and even without a receipt they exchanged it for me. I was amazed. I have never had a store do that without a long list of "must haves" such as a receipt. I will always shop at this store as their service and comitment was great!
Written by Guest on 2007-06-11 13:09:39
Even though the coupons have a list of brands they can't be used for, the sales people let me use coupons towards those items. I had a lot of coupons I had collected and was able to get 20% off of brand name pots, knives, dinnerware, etc that was listed in the exclusion of the coupon.. They even let me use 7 coupons during one transaction.
Written by Guest on 2007-06-17 08:05:45
We are registered at BBB and at the time of registry, we were made clear that anything we get that we don't want- regardless if it is from their store or not!- can be returned there. THANK GOD, because we got a lot of unwanted gifts! :grin
