Mr. Thrifty Principle #5: Look hard at the big VOIP providers

As Mr. Thrifty said earlier, VOIP providers are a dime a dozen these days.  Most of the VOIP providers out there are small and have no guarantee that they will survive.  It might be worth paying $5 more per month to have a big VOIP name and deep pockets behind you (companies like AT&T, Verizon, Lingo and others).  If the VOIP provider that you are looking at has less than 100,000 members, be sure to ask a bunch of questions before signing up for VOIP service.
Of the bigger VOIP providers, Mr. Thrifty likes AT&T and Lingo the most.  Mr. Thrifty is NOT a fan of Vonage (avoid avoid avoid).

Update: The VOIP provider Vonage is planning on going public.  Mr. Thrifty is NOT a fan of their VOIP service or their company.  Mr. Thrifty had a terrible VOIP quaity issues and customer service.  You are a lot better off going somewhere else for VOIP service in the opinion of Mr. Thrifty.
