Mr. Thrifty Principle #4: Cash rebates are available from apartment locators

First, Mr. Thifty recommends using an apartment locator. In many states (especially Texas and Florida), special real estate agents exist who serve renters. They maintain databases of available apartments and can help you find the apartments that best match your needs. Locators are usually paid by apartment communities a commission (usually 50% or 100% of first month’s rent) for any tenants they refer. Many locators will pass some of that rebate onto tenants. However, this rebate is TOTALLY negotiable. This means if you spend $1000 per month on your apartment, the locator gets $1000. Mr. Thrifty thinks some of that money should be yours and you should ask for it!
