Mr. Thrifty Principle # 3: If you hear a strange noise, pay attention

One of Mr. Thrifty’s good friends Mr. Mechanical Engineer gave him a lecture one time about physics. Noise is created by friction; friction means something unnatural is happening under the hood. Ignoring it won’t make the problem go away, it usually makes the problem worse.

Remember Mr. Thrifty’s Commandment #6: “Don’t be Penny Wise and Pound Foolish”, or the car repair could end up costing you much more down the road. A few years back, Mr. Thrifty heard a funny noise from under the hood and ignored it for months. Upon taking it in to a mechanic (more on this later), he learned that what would have cost $25 initially was now going to cost $300! That was an expensive lesson in car repairs. Mr. Thrifty recommends you don’t follow this approach, and instead have your car checked as soon as possible.
