Page 10 of 10 Mr. Thrifty Principle #9: Check the ticket carefully
Just one last principle… be sure you check the ticket carefully. It is not unknown for scammers to print a fake ticket and pass it off to an unsuspecting buyer. Usually before buying a ticket, Mr. Thrifty will look at several tickets from sellers to get the feel of the paper stock, style of the ticket, and note any holograms or other anti-counterfeit technologies used on the tickets.
The other thing before buying a ticket is to check the ticket date and seating assignment. Mr. Thrifty found one person trying to sell a ticket for a game that happened the week before. Another trick that some scalpers try to use it to have two single seats and sell them as a pair. If you are buying several seats together, make sure you check the section, row and seat numbers to ensure that they are together. You don’t want to end up on the other side of the stadium from your friends.
Good deals can be found on tickets if you are patient, can tolerate a little bit of uncertainty and are careful. Overall it can be well worth it to get great seats at a great price to a great game.
The best Mr. Thrifty ticket story took place in Colorado. Driving back from a wonderful ski trip, our car was blasting the radio as we were heading down the highway. About 30 miles outside of Denver we figured out that the Broncos were going to play the Pittsburgh Stealers in a Division Championship Playoff game. We simply pulled off of the highway and into the parking lot of Mile High Stadium two hours before the game. With out tickets or a lot of money we split up to try to find tickets. Mr. Thrifty ended up with 10th row, 50-yard line tickets to an unbelievable football game. One of the best memories from the whole trip! |
Alternative Written by Guest on 2005-08-16 17:51:45 An alternative to scalping tickets to the NCAA Final Four is to enter the Public Ticket lottery that the NCAA holds every year. Great way to potentially get some tickets at face value. I have had some luck getting tickets this way. Check out the NCAA site for more details. | Be careful when you scalp tickets Written by Guest on 2005-09-14 05:51:02 You need to remember to be careful when you sclap tickets. I bought tickets to a Bulls game one time that turned out to be fake. Not only did I lose my $$$ but was detained by security for a couple of hours. Make sure you look at the tickets carefully before you buy. One thing that I now do is "shop" first before I buy. When I am shopping I am taking a good look at what others tickets look like in order to make sure when I buy I scalp legitimate tickets. Football Fan Go RAIDERS | Super Bowl Tickets = Expensive Written by Guest on 2005-10-10 12:20:29 The Super Bowl is a difficult place to scalp tickets. Not only are there a lot of cops around but the prices are $$$. Last time I paid well over $1,000 to get into the game. If you want to scalp tickets there, have patience and maybe you can find a deal. ScalperGuy88 | College Football Ticket Scalping Written by Guest on 2006-07-15 09:11:12 I have a group of buddies that love to go to a different college football game every year. Each time we show up at the stadium without tickets and are always about to scalp some there on gameday. I think the most we have ever paid for a ticket was $150 for pretty good seats. The trick to scalping tickets is to get to the stadium early and be patient. | Be careful when scalping tickets Written by Guest on 2006-07-18 06:17:23 Always, repeat always, bring a stadium map with you when scalping tickets. I made the mistake of not doing so and when I get into the stadium I was two levels higher than I thought. | Scalping tickets from StubHub Written by Guest on 2006-10-07 10:52:08 I have scapled tickets at StubHub before and had pretty good luck.
