Last Resort: Cash is King

Mr. Thrifty Principle #5: As a last resort, Cash is King
The last principle is the least creative but can be the most helpful to a newly married couple. As a last resort for a wedding gift, you might want to give cash. Gifts of cash are generally not very thrifty because you want to give enough so you don’t look cheap. However, a newly married couple ends up with a lot of expenses that they did not know about. Having a little extra cash on hand can make the difference.  Mr. Thrifty has even heard of cases where the wedding gift of cash really helped out with some unexpected expenses on the honeymoon.

Congratulations, you now know enough to give a great thrifty wedding present!  Do you have any specific ideas on specific cool gifts?  Anything that Mr. Thrifty has missed in this article?  If so, leave a comment below for all to enjoy!

I wish I would have had these ides before the last wedding I went to... I ended up spending $75 on a present that I don't think the bride and groom really wanted.

If the couple already has children, and many do these days, a gift of baysitting might be a great gift!
Regifting....

I just got married a couple of months ago and could not believe that people actually do regift presents. We got a silver serving tray that had been given to a friend of ours. The only reason why we knew it was a regift is that their initials were engraved on the platter! They looked goofy.

Cash is not king

I know giving a wedding present of cash is the thing to do in other parts of the U.S., however I think that it is not a good wedding present. Feels like to me that people who give cash (unless requested) coudl not figure out a better present to give on their own. Kinda like when your grandmother gave you $20 for Christmas becasue she did not know what you liked. Be creative and buy something.

Just buy off of the registry...

Buy a gift off of the registry. This is not a time to get creative. If you buy a wedding gift from the registry, the couple can always easily take it back if they do not like it!

... you are never going to be the hero. Don't try to get too fancy when buying a wedding gift. Go simple and pick something off of the registry. This is not like Christmas where it isn't as cool to pick something which is circled in a catalog.

People say that cash is not creative, but cash can be more thoughtful than a gift and its more useful. The couple can buy anything they want and like you said . expenses
